Bio:

From the swirling primordial mists of a 1960s Southern California suburban wasteland comes a unique sound a soulful cry for peace love and understanding that is a thoughtful cacophony of interwoven musical themes intriguing melody lines and soaring harmonies and....and...... Ah what a bunch of crap! Its just four guys banging on guitars and drums howling like scorched monkeys!!! Please enjoy! But we digress! Based in Long Beach California “Johnny Mark and the Ricks” released a CD of 15 original rock songs entitled “By the Lights of the Pike” in September 2009. Collectively the members of “Johnny Mark and the Ricks” were fortunate to have been exposed to a variety of musical styles in their lifetimes including rockabilly surf rock British invasion the Haight-Ashbury scene the Sunset Strip scene punk rock and native rock. Individually the members of “Johnny Mark and the Ricks” have extensive musical backgrounds. Rick “Frankie Ennui” Whitney was a founding memberof the influential and quirky 80’s band “Suburban Lawns” and was songwriteron their radio hits “Janitor” and “Gidget Goes to Hell”. Ricky “McDrummit” McDermott was a founding member and drummer of the “new wave” band“Tux Dentist”. Their song “TV Movie” received local radio play in the LA market and extensive play on college radio. After youthful tutoring with “The Inkspots” Mark “Shark” Handley has thumped the bass guitar for severalSouthern California bands. Johnny “JJ” Delray has too many hobbies beinginvolved with the Hawaiian language-slack key band “Na Lolo Mau Malahini” (“The Crazy Tourists”) and the High Desert big sky western musings of “J. Tree and the Flying Lizardmen”. www.myspace.com/johnnymarkandthericks www.johnnymarkandthericks.com
